Morning, I am really appreciated to read an article with title No "Excellent", "Good", "Medium" or "Bad" categories in the graduation certification any more - one of worst and useless pressure for many student generations!
It reminds me of a story of a friend. Her youngest daughter is now graded 11, and she is preparing to enter University next year. Be a Vietnamese mother, my friend is so nervous about her future. She asked me to sit with her and share her worries. Then, I gave her some methods related to improve four English using skills and English communication to help her daughter study English better. And I said that she had no need to force her pubby to follow my ways if they are not suitable for her. However, after the next few days, she came back and told me about her daughter's new English class which used for teaching English grammar only, but the studying time is two and a half hours per day. It is so terrible! Even I could not learn English grammar continuously in a too-long time like that. I asked why she chose that course. She said that because her neighborhood who has a son graduating from a top University of Vietnam giving her advice. I am so surprised about that answer. The decision she made for her daughter depends on her neighborhood, not because of her daughter's dream or desire. Obviously, she knew clearly that what her daughter need is not the grade at school, she simply would like to improve her English.
"But the top University requires high scores"

This story could be regarded as a funny story or a vicious circle. Both she and her daughter are stuck with uncertainty. Also, University is the only way for her daughter's future. Although she recognized my methods are valuable, it may be too dangerous to study differently with others. Friends are learning English grammar for University and she has to follow them.
How can I help her out of being stuck?
Again, I repeat: "Don't let UNIVERSITY stop your DREAM". Please put the university pressure our of her daughter's mind. If she failed the test, take a gap year and do whatever she likes before continuing university choice". It is no doubt that college is a good place providing us basic knowledge and necessary skills before diving into real life. But as Dale Carnegie said in How to win friends and influence others book:
"Even the lessons in the best global University are not enough for us to stop learning"
Bill Gates, Warren Buffett or many worldwide billionaires are reading books every day. Why many youngers would like to stop studying after leaving University? Honestly, when students get freedom from pain and university stress and start learning for themselves as well as their knowledge. University results would not make them scared anymore. Nowadays, we are able to find out many choices instead of college such as reading books, studying from online courses or making friends with people who are as same ideas, jobs or thoughts as us. So that if you are a freshmen or a student, the quote below is for you:
"Don't regard college studying as going shopping
when you don't have it, you crave,
and when you do, you feel regret it"
