Stable or flexible change, what do you choose for your future career?

Updated: Jan 4, 2021

It's nearly the end of my second year at university, so the way I was in college is about halfway. Now, in addition to studying in school, we also have to work part-time, study outside, hope to get more work experience and certificates to thicken our CV profile. I also had to work and study a lot outside my school to have more things to write on that. But unlike them - those who have clearly determined where they will be, what to do next for their career when graduated, I am now completely unsteady, uncertain, unable to imagine in my mind what to do next after stepping out of that university gate.

🍀 What are you going to do after graduation?

🍀 Will you apply to that company after you graduate?

🍀 Are you planning to have a stable career or flexible change after graduation?

These are some of the countless questions I get from people around me, questions about my future intentions. I don't know how to answer those questions yet, I don't know who I will be when I graduate from school. However, one thing I do know for sure is that, if life forces me to choose between having a stable career or a flexible change one for my future, I will much prefer the first choice.

Why?

Simply because our lives are choices, we have countless options to make and countless ways to live and enjoy them. And my choice is stability and there's nothing wrong if I do it. Despite the "job-hopping" trend that is spreading widely among young people like me, I just hope that I can find a stable job and stick with it for a long time. Because for me, only when having a stable job can I help myself find precious values in life.

Nowadays, a lot of people change their jobs when they feel disinclined with it or receive more attractive offers from other companies. It is completely normal for them to make that change on this day. But if the job-hopping happens too often, they won't be able to feel the full happiness of their working years. Maybe they will feel excited and happy when they just change jobs because they finally get rid of an overbearing boss, receive higher remuneration, a more dynamic working environment.... but that fun won't last long. Job-hopping that happens regularly will create a sense of comparison, making it easier for them to become bored with a new job, and harder to be satisfied with that. The inevitable consequence is that after a short while they fall back into the initial bad state and continue to quit their job, jump to a better place. It is like a vicious cycle that they will never find the true value of the work they do and of course the happiness of it.

Therefore, I made up my mind clear that if I could choose, I would choose to learn how to stick to a job for a long time and stabilize my career as soon as possible. I will not be in a hurry to choose any company or any job, but learn to choose carefully and prepare well for my future career and learn to love my chosen job.

A few words to you: Thank you for taking your time to read my sharing. Hope that you will also choose a career that's right for you in the future. It doesn't have to be like anyone else’s, as long as you feel good about it, that is more than enough. Remember:

“You are the boss of your life, so act like it”
