⛈ You had a bad day ⛈
You're taking one down
You sing a sad song just to turn it around
You say you don't know
You tell me don't lie
You work at a smile and you go for a ride
You had a bad day
The camera don't lie
You're coming back down and you really don't mind
You had a bad day

🌼🌼 These lyrics of Daniel Powter's song "Bad Day" are probably the mood of many people of us right now. It is no coincidence that we - Gen Z and Millennials are dubbed the "Anxiety Generation", despite being raised and grown in the best condition, the pressures from family and society are causing us to face a lot of anxiety and pressure in our life. And then, the bad days happened, in many different ways, even if no one wanted it. And during those bad days, there will be times when you realize that yourself are very tired, unable to continue or do anything. At that time, the whole world seems to turn its back on you and only you are there, with sadness hidden in your heart. After all we will go through those difficult days, even fast or slow, but don't let these sorrows take over your life, going through bad things is not as scary as letting it invade your mind and take it for granted as an acceptable manifestation of this modern life. Don't ignore yourself and go through those bad days silently endured, at least you have to learn how to make yourself feel better every time you get through something tough in life.
Remember that even the hardest days contain lessons helping you be a better person. If you’re having a bad day, it can feel like things will never get better. However, the fact is that tomorrow is a new day and a new opportunity to improve your life. So, if we had a bad day, what should we do to find peace in this stressful life?
1/ Take a deep breath
You don't get it wrong, taking deep breaths is a very effective way to feel better. Alexandra Elle, a quality-of-life consultant and author of the book "Today I Affirm: A Journal that Nurtures Self Care" once said that when you feel things are getting too bad, stop doing all your work right there and take about 2 minutes just to inhale - exhale, deeply and attentively. Pausing for a few short minutes and taking deep, focused breaths can be a great way to get rid of your negative emotions. And to improve the quality of my life, I also recommend that each person of us should take about 15-30 minutes to meditate, which is very good and will help you pay more attention to your own breathing. The scariest thing is that we always think we're too busy and can't take any time to take care of ourselves, we refuse to spend 15-30 minutes a day meditating or exercising but are willing to spend hours just for watching and surfing Facebook or Tik Tok app,... At least, when you find your life difficult, don’t forget to take time to calm down and practice deep breathing so that your body can regain the original spirit.
2/ Face with your problems
When faced with the bad problems in our life, most of us often choose to avoid it rather than face it directly. We often just ignore those problems, focus on other things and wish those problems will disappear from our lives. Of course that won’t work, won't fix anything at all, that problems are also there and you're just trying to avoid it. Therefore, I sincerely recommend that you should bravely face your problems, no matter how difficult or painful you will receive, only when you bravely face your own problems, that will help your soul become lighter and more at ease. So, don’t try to avoid your problems that are always on your mind, be brave to face it, my friends!
3/ Do some activities
I know you'll get frustrated and definitely won't be comfortable with exercise clothes when you're already upset. However, according to many studies, exercise helps promote positive emotions a few hours later. So playing some sports or jogging are not bad choices to do after a bad day, right?
4/ Find ways to connect with other people
"Humans need to be connected because we are social creatures"
Studying human behavior in public places, Katrina Johnston-Zimmerman, an urban anthropologist from Drexel University, had said that even low-key interactions - like watching strangers go through in the city center or sitting in a park with many people around,... can also make you feel more connected and more comfortable. Most of us lack the human connections in our lives. So after a hard day or anytime you want to connect with somebody, let’s call a friend, facetime with your family members or even talk with your neighbor through the window. Maybe after those conversations, your mood will improve a lot.
5/ Find the things you are grateful for in life
Out there, a lot of things seem terrible - life is so complicated, isn't it? Think about what makes you grateful?
Showing appreciation for people or something in your life can help you feel connected and inspire others. It also helps you get out of a vicious cycle of deadlock. You don't have to focus on the negative things anymore, but instead to the more positive things around.
Things we are grateful for can be small, like having a good cup of coffee; or big - like feeling safe and comfortable indoors. You can tell others what makes you feel grateful, or write it down. Thank you must come from yourself, don't ask others what you should be grateful for or tell others what they should be grateful for in life.
